Morgan is an award-winning sportswriter for the Akron Beacon Journal, where he's been employed since 1995. Morgan has covered the Cleveland Cavaliers and University of Akron athletics as a beat writer for the Beacon Journal and was the beat writer for the Akron Aeros, the Cleveland Indians' Double-A affiliate, from 1997 to 2003. He also was part of the Beacon Journal's coverage during the Indians' 1997 playoff  run and World Series appearance against eventual champion Florida Marlins.
Morgan covered NBA MVP and All-Star LeBron James all four years of LeBron's high school career at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. Morgan was given permission to write the October 2003 release of LeBron James: The Rise of A Star (Gray & Company, Cleveland), the May 2009 release of Kelly ``The Ghost'' Pavlik: The Pride of Youngstown (City Printing, Youngstown), the July 2009 release of More Than A Coach: What It Means To Play For Coach, Mentor and Friend Jim Tressel (Triumph Books, Chicago), the September release of High School Heroes: Athlete's Stories of Inspiration, Dedication and Hope (University of Akron Press), and an upcoming children's book featuring illustrations of LeBron, Tressel, Pavlik and two high school heroes (a boy and a girl) who team up to promote literacy and the joys and rewards of reading. He is a former basketball and baseball player from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, the same high school that produced NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Paul Warfield, former Ohio State All-American and NFL All-Pro offensive lineman, and the late, Korey Stringer, former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett and former University of Michigan star and current New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham.

Morgan also was a former baseball player at Youngstown State University.
